Susan Plastow is the founder of CookSpeakEat, a project that teaches English and wellbeing through food and cookery, serving the migrant and refugee community. Dishes from students' home countries are cooked and eaten together. Sue was born in Gloucester and has, in the last few years, returned to Tredworth after not living here for 30 years. Sue remembers the Picturedrome in the 90’s, where she used to go and see productions. She was brought into the space again by Voices Gloucester to run a ‘Moveable feast’ in the theatre - a Honduran carnival with trapeze artists, singers, a DJ and a feast was put on for 100 people. Given the success of this, Neil asked her to continue helping at the Picturedrome - she saw that people involved were bringing the space to life and agreed, running a cafe each week. She commented, ‘Gloucester needs the picturedrome up on its feet with funding, but not run by the council. We need to get behind it and really believe in it and see what it could do, what it was doing, see where it was heading.’ Sue continues to spread joy wherever she goes with a strong passion that Barton and Tredworth is a place full of talented individuals.
We need the Picturedrome back!
