Mark Remes co-owns Remus Sounds with his father, the only music shop in Gloucester City Centre, founded in 1991 on Barton Street. Mark is a musician in his own right and has been an active contributor to the local music scene. Mark's first experience of the Picturedrome was around 2013, where he played to an audience of 500, clapping along to the chorus of him playing Bill Withers ‘Just the two of us’. He remembers a friend doing PA support in the Theatre when metal gigs were being put on, and later joined the Jam sessions with Charles Campbell, Jermaine and his son Jaden when Neil Walker began working in the building. Mark remembers fondly venues which have come and gone in Gloucester, such as The Brunswick Pub, which used to put on Heavy metal nights and open mics. He is hopeful for Gloucester and its venues, such as the Thirsty Pine, the Rene, the Guildhall - he would love to see a space where young and old can perform, adding, ‘It’s down to the people, someone who wants to organise it all and sort it out’. Mark often hears whispers of new things happening in the music scene here from customers and goes out to see it himself.
